HASHIMOTO'S & EXERCISE

Does this sound like you?

You just got a hashimoto's diagnosis.  You've spent years trying to keep your weight stable with hours of cardio and now you're just plain exhausted.

Your doctor just started you on thyroid medication and has advised you of all the dietary restrictions that come with autoimmune conditions, but what they haven't addressed is exercise.

There's hope of feeling better in sight, but you're having a hard time changing your habits after years of "move more and eat less" being ingrained into you.

So now what?

I was there too.  4 years ago, I was a fitness obsessed personal trainer (and still am) who was going through the most stress of her life.  At that time, my hubby and I were renovating our forever home.  This event made my hair fall out, made me feel like I got hit by a truck every morning, and I swear I could have fallen asleep while driving every afternoon.  And, there was no way in hell I had the energy to exercise... yes, even as a personal trainer!

I was lucky and had a great naturopath who diagnosed my Hashimoto's, but she wasn't versed in exercise.  So, I had to do my own research and experimentation to figure out how to safely incorporate exercise into my new autoimmune friendly lifestyle.

What's the secret?  Short workouts focusing on compound movements, progressive overload and ample rest.

After 4 years, I've perfected the way I exercise so I can still get results without running the risk of throwing my body (and thyroid) into chaos.  And with over 4,000 one-on-one personal training sessions with other women, I know my method works for REAL women with REAL priorities and REAL schedules.

But before you grab your dumbbells...

I have to be honest with you and say that you NEED to give your medicine and/or lifestyle changes some time to kick in.  I needed about 2 weeks of time before I could even think about exercise again.

Why?  Because when you get down to it, the basics of having an autoimmune condition are this:

ALL STRESS (WHETHER IT'S PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL) AFFECTS YOUR BODY MORE THAN THE "AVERAGE" PERSON, SO IT'S EVEN MORE IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO LIMIT AS MANY STRESSES AS YOU CAN.

Therefore, ONLY once you've started to feel some relief from medication and/or lifestyle changes, can proceed with adding in exercise.

Hi!  My name is Laura Millat and I'm a Health Coach and Personal Trainer.  Despite loving healthy food, I drink bourbon almost daily.  I also love lifting weights, but I know how important couch time with my hubby is.  I live in the country with my husband and chickens, yet I'm a girly girl who loves makeup and skincare.

So yeah, "healthy" can definitely contradict itself, but that's why I'm here...  To show you that health doesn't have to control your life, even with an autoimmune condition.

A life full of energy (despite Hashimoto's) isn't so far off.  And what's even better?  You can achieve that life without feeling overwhelmed.
